I’ve always been a seeker, though for a long time, I was seeking the wrong things. Growing up in the quiet green of coastal Oregon, I couldn’t wait to trade the misty mornings for the bright lights of a big city. I chased a fast-paced career in digital marketing, believing that success was measured in promotions, packed schedules, and the constant hum of being ‘busy.’ For over a decade, it worked. Until one day, it didn’t. I was burnt out, running on caffeine and anxiety, and felt completely disconnected from my own body and mind.
The turning point wasn’t a dramatic, movie-like moment, but a quiet, desperate whisper. I was sitting in my car, stuck in traffic, and realized I couldn’t remember the last time I had taken a full, deep breath. That evening, I didn’t turn on the TV. Instead, I unrolled an old yoga mat and just stretched on my living room floor. The next morning, I made a real breakfast instead of grabbing a protein bar. These weren’t grand gestures; they were tiny, intentional shifts. I started exploring my local farmer’s market, rediscovering the joy of simple, whole foods, and began a simple 5-minute morning meditation practice.
Slowly but surely, I began to find my way back to myself. I learned that wellness wasn’t about extreme diets or grueling workouts, but about gentle consistency. It was about listening to my body’s need for movement, nourishing it with real food, and giving my mind the space to be still. I learned that calm wasn’t something you find on a far-off vacation; it’s something you cultivate, right where you are, one intentional moment at a time.
I created Our Daily Calm as a space to share the practical, gentle, and realistic strategies that helped me reclaim my wellbeing. It’s the resource I wish I had when I felt so lost. My hope is to build a community for anyone else who feels overwhelmed by the pressure to ‘do it all,’ and to show that a more peaceful, centered life is accessible to everyone. My own daily calm still starts simply: with a glass of warm lemon water, a few minutes of stretching as the sun comes up, and a quiet moment of gratitude before the day truly begins.
